Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden

Upper East Side1 hourhistory

The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden occupies an 1826 stone carriage house that served as a fashionable day resort for New Yorkers who came to escape the city — a short carriage ride uptown from what was then the settled part of Manhattan. Owned and operated by the Colonial Dames of America, it offers a window into early 19th-century social life.
