The Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration, located in the restored main building of the Ellis Island Immigration Station, tells the story of the more than 12 million immigrants who passed through these doors between 1892 and 1954. It is one of America's most evocative historic sites, preserving the gateway through which many Americans trace their heritage.

Permanent Collection
The museum features exhibits spanning the full history of American immigration, from the colonial era to the present, with a focus on the peak years of European immigration through Ellis Island from 1892 to 1954. The American Family Immigration History Center allows visitors to search passenger records for over 51 million immigrants.

The museum itself is free, but the ferry to Ellis Island requires a ticket ($24 adult, $17 children). Combo tickets with Statue of Liberty available.
