El Museo del Barrio is a leading Latino cultural institution dedicated to Puerto Rican, Caribbean, and Latin American art and culture, founded in 1969 in East Harlem. The museum presents art from pre-Columbian civilizations to the present, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Latino community in New York City.

Permanent Collection

El Museo's La Permanente collection comprises approximately 8,000 objects spanning pre-Columbian, Spanish colonial, modern, and contemporary Latino and Latin American art. The museum's collection is especially strong in Taíno art from the Caribbean, Santos de Palo (carved wooden saints), and contemporary Puerto Rican and Nuyorican art.
