Alice Austen House Museum

Rosebank· Staten Island1 hourhistoryart

The Alice Austen House Museum celebrates the life and pioneering photography of Alice Austen (1866–1952), one of America's earliest female photographers who documented everyday life, immigration, and social customs in extraordinary detail from her Victorian cottage overlooking New York Harbor. Austen's work and her life as an openly gay woman in 19th-century America have made her an icon of American photography and LGBTQ history.
